Graduation is Upon Us

Standard

It’s almost done, my high school career.  First of all I don’t know why people call it a high school career. As a home schooled student I never considered high school a career. I just enjoyed learning and getting and education.

To me high school is a stepping stone towards our destiny and purpose. Yes we all have a destiny and purpose. I am very thankful that I know my purpose and destiny. However if you’re graduating like me and trying to figure out your destiny its okay. The truth is destiny is all about finding out what you love and pursuing it with a passion.

For me as a Christian I believe God appoints our destiny but if you’re not a christian or have another faith that doesn’t mean  you don’t have a destiny. You do! You were put on this earth to do something great and as you graduate think about that. Think about all the possibilities out there. I pray that you’ll go confidently in the direction of your dreams and make everything you’ve ever wanted happen. Now I know that might seem hard so check out this video about one of my favourite Britain’s Got Talent performers

Paul Potts went on to win Britain’s Got Talent and by singing he gained his confidence because singing was what he loved. I graduate this weekend and I intend to have a lot of fun. So to my fellow grads go graduate and have fun at parties but remember at the end of the day it’s just a stepping stone towards your destiny.

Until next time be blessed, stay strong and never give up,

Lindsay Lohan and The Rest (A.K.A What the Heck Happened to Being a Classy Lady?)

Standard

I wasn’t intending on writing this blog but as I went about my business on my Yahoo homepage I couldn’t help but notice the continued drama with Lindsay Lohan. It’s kind of ridculous. Thinking back to when I first saw Parent Trap I was convinced the red headed twins were the coolest girls in the world (it took me a while to figure out it was one actress but to be fair I was only six).

Had someone told me then that the red headed twin would grow up to be a drunk, drugged up lesbian criminal I don’t think I would have believed them.  Somewhere along the line Lindsay went from a bright wide-eyed beauty to the craziness that she is today. It’s sad really because she had all the opportunity in the world and she chose to squander it. Lindsay Lohans behaviour and the behaviour of some other famous young ladies leads me to wonder what the heck happened to being a classy lady?

When did it become cool to be a slut or a drunk or a druggie? Did I miss something? After all I am eighteen the perfect age to get caught up in this stuff.  However I won’t and I never will get involved with any of the above. As you might know I grew up in a home that doubled as a rehab center. I lived with ex drug addicts, ex alcoholics and ex prostitutes. I saw too many of them overdose and too many lives destroyed to ever get into that stuff. Yet not everyone had my upbringing but then again there are those who’ve had a great up bringing and have still gone crazy. Miley Cyrus for example sure she isn’t at Lindsay’s level yet but her new video for ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ shows her heading that way.

The other one I’d like to point out is Christina Aguliera, all in all I think she’s pretty decent. She’s married and has a kid. However if you watch her video for ‘Not Myself Tonight’ its bordering on hard-core porn in fact youtube requires you to be 18 to watch it. So why are so many women doing this? Part of me wants to say it’s from the pressure to stay current and famous in Hollywood. Yet young women like Taylor Swift are just as famous and manage to not be a slut. So the other part of me knows the real reason. The true reason is we’ve allowed them to become this.

By buying their music and idolizing them we’ve said its okay to be a slut. It doesn’t matter if you’re teaching me to get drunk every night I’ll still go watch your movie opening weekend. The truth is us as the consumer have the power. If we stopped supporting this bad behaviour it could create a new trend in Hollywood. Personally I miss the old Hollywood of the 1930s where a young woman knew what it meant to have class. To be alluring and sexy without being slutty. They knew they had to respect themselves, treat others fairly and be illusive. I miss those days and I hope young women with class would make a comeback in Hollywood.

What do you think? Do you agree or disagree? Let me know it’s fun when these posts become conversations =]

Disappointment and Airplanes

Standard

So it’s officially May and usually I am quite fond of May but not this year. Why you might ask? Well its simply because the Pepsi Refresh Everything grant program is over and I didn’t win the $25k grant. That $25k grant would have been amazing and really helped me launch my magazine. Its disappointing to work so hard for something and then in the end have all your work count  for nothing.

I know I am not the only one to be disappointed but my wounds are still fresh and whats a blog for if not to vent? But the real question is how are we supposed to act when life disppoints us. Do we sit around and moap about our bad luck or do we decide tofind another way around our promblem. My choice, I decide to get back up and fight. Some of the greastest moments in history came because someone decided not to give up but to fight for their dream.

Just because I didn’t win the grant doesn’t mean I am going to give up my dream. I am going to launch my magazine this summer no matter what! Losing the Pepsi Grant just means I have to find another way to fund it. So I encourage you if you’ve been disappointed like me recently, take a deep breath, decide on a new course of action, stand up and carry on pursuing your dream. Its that simple.

The other things I wanted to share with you is a song I am currently obsessed with me and has helped me through my disappointment. The song is Airplanes by B.O.B featuring Hayley Williams. The lyrics to this song are pretty awesome especially the chorus.

Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars? I could really use a wish right, wish right now, wish right now.

Listen to the whole song in the fancy youtube video below

The reason I love these lyrics is because its taking something we see everyday (airplanes) and turns them into the thing we need (shooting stars a.k.a a wish). Its a great song about how everyday we can find something simple and turn it into something beautiful. I also really like the beat and Hayley’s voice is perfect.

I hope you enjoyed this post, please remember even though we face disappointment its not the end of the world. Its simply an opportunity for us to rise above the circumstance and prove the world wrong,

Until next time, be blessed, stay strong and never give up,

God Bless,
